Here’s to all the moms and dads! Thanks for taking time out to come to winter sing, the holiday play or Christmas assembly at school this week. For volunteering at the bake sale, for sewing the costumes or bringing a special dish for the teacher appreciation luncheon.
As I left our older daughter’s elementary school holiday performance today, it occurred to me that parents all across the country and maybe even around the world are all doing the same thing at this time of the year. Celebrating their kids, showing up at school events, taking pictures, clapping and smiling broadly from their seats in the audience.
Since no one tends to applaud the parents, I thought I’d take a minute to say thank you on your kids’ behalf. Thanks for being there, for waking up in the middle of the night with a sick or scared child, for packing the lunch boxes, for signing the permission slips, for helping with homework, for running to Walgreens or CVS to pick up last minute supplies for a school project, for driving to ballet or lacrosse or soccer or dance or tennis or baseball practice and for cheering loudly during weekend games. Your kids are so lucky to have your love and support! With your nurturing hands and open hearts, you are raising the next generation who will one day care for all of us as we age.
Thanks for taking on the greatest but also one of the hardest roles around–being a parent. Your hard work, love and constant care are noticed and appreciated!
